Castle Kost

Castle Kost

The castle Kost belongs to the most well-preserved Gothic castles in Bohemia. In 1346 Beneš from Vartenberg bought Sobotka and its whole domain. Soon after that he decided to build the safer seat than the old strong-hold in Sobotka. Originally small castle was rebuilt to the contemporary appearance by the Peter from Vartenberg, senior and well-stationed official on the court of Charles IV and his son Wenceslas IV. It is composed of the Bibrštejn Palace and the black kitchen, Lobkowitz building by the entrance, Vartenberg Palace, Šelenberg Palace and tower palace. The castle Kost is owned by the Kinský family nowadays. There is among others the exposition of the guns from the army museum.

Trosky

hrad Trosky

The castle Trosky (you can see its remains) was built in the 14th century on the sheer basalt eruptive rock, which got divided into two separated towers. The higher one, four-edged, is called Panna (Virgin), the smaller and robust one is called Baba (Hag). The core part of the castle was composed of the castle palace and service courtyard. The castle was able to stand up to all army attacks thanks to the defensive stone wall and the strategic position. The castle wasted since the Thirty years war. Distant sightseeing. The castle Trosky was stated a natural monument in 1998.

Věžák

Věžický rybník

The pond Věžák (Věžický rybník) belongs to the most fascinating ponds in Bohemian Paradise. Just from the water level rise above the sandstone rocks – rocky towers with the view point up there accessible by the path from the dike of the pond. The warm water of the pond invites to swim in summer months. The spring on the edge of the rock put the finishing touches to the beautiful scenery of the Bohemian Paradise. The pond Věžák, together with ponds Rokytňák, Vidlák, Krčák, Dolský, Nebák a Podsemínský, is one of the eight well-preserved ponds in Podtrosecký valley.

Kozákov

Kozákov

The national natural monument (162, 8 ha, stated in 1985). The highest peak in foothills of Krkonoše (Podkrkonoší) and the dominating landscape feature in Bohemian Paradise (because of 450 m super-elevation above the level of Jizera by Semily). It is a part of the Ještědsko – Kozácký range. The protected landscape area is situated in the south-west part of the slope, where arise the tectonic rocky blocks of sandstones (the massive Drábovny with the chamber statued into the rocks, pseudo-carst cave Babí and Kudrnáčova pec). Měsíční údolí (Month Valley) is used by the climbers. There have been for long time (since 16th century) extracted agates, jaspers, amethysts in the eruptive rocks in the south (-east) slope (Votrubcův lom). There is the touristic hut (Riegrova chata) on the top with the newly made outlook-tower (48, 5 m) and the ski lift.
