When in 1912 Metoděj Vlach first climbed into Mladá Boleslav with his monoplane, few realized that he was the first Czech to build a plane of his own construction powered by a motor car and he took off on it. The foundation of the museum is linked to the activities of the Metoděj Vlach Foundation, founded by the city of Mladá Boleslav in 2001, to which the Mladá Boleslav Aeroklub lent a hangar space on its ever expanding fleet of aircraft.
